A Study of VesselsPosted by Delia Stone on 7/28/2010I have always been fascinated by the idea of experimenting with wire Vessels. However it seemed like a formidable task which I happily put on my 'good intentions' list but never seemed to get around to ... until I stumbled upon the work of Mary Tucker. Mary has made many vessels that were absolutely awe inspiring to me. I saw her vessels and suddenly I was set on fire. After studying the basic principals of construction in her vessels I set out to conduct my first vessel experiment. This is the result.
One way that I chose to manage the formidiable nature of vessel making was to simply scale it down. This vessel is about the size of a thimble. See it compared to a penny in the final shot. It is the perfect size for a keepsake pendant. Though I look at it and see many flaws it still represents a success to me. The little lid actually locks quite securely in place and must be intentionally opened. I was very pleased with this particular accomplishment. I have already begun work on a second vessel. Thank you Mary, for the inspiration! Images
